PostSubject: Gardevoir [XY OU] / Mega Gardevoir [XY OU]   Tue Nov 19, 2013 1:53 am

Gardevoir

Stats
HP: 68
Attack: 65
Defense: 65
Special Attack: 125
Special Defense: 115
Speed: 80

Type: Psychic / Fairy

Description: Gardevoir, one of my absolute favorite Pokemon, with both an awesome design and stat spread.. Thanks to its new re-typing and increased movepool, Gardevoir has all it needs to succeed. With a good Special Attack and Special Defense it can rampage through unprepared teams. To add to its buff, it is now immune to Dragon type moves, meaning that it can come in and scare the slower dragons out with threats of strong STAB attacks. However Gardevoir faces quite a few new challenges this generation, notably the fact that it has a Mega Evolution that outclasses it in every way, making multiple sets downright useless. However, Gardevoir can still use Choice items, something that Mega Gardevoir cannot do.

Set #1: Choice Scarf
Item: Choice Scarf
Ability: Trace
EVs: 4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Modest ( + SpA, - Atk )
Moveset:
Moonblast
Thunderbolt / Energy Ball / Psyshock
Shadow Ball
Focus Blast

Set Explanation: This is Gardevoir's best set. Unlike its Mega Evolution, Gardevoir can abuse Choice items. Moonblast is your typical STAB and it will nail Dark, Fighting and Dragon types for super effective damage while possibly reducing their Special Attack. Thunderbolt is useful for nailing Flying and Water types. Or you could run Energy Ball to nail Water, Ground and Rock types for super effective damage. Psyshock is also an option for Pokemon such as Chansey or Blissey, and Gardevoir gets STAB on it as well. Shadow Ball and Focus Blast have perfect neutral coverage. Trace will allow Gardevoir to steal abilities from the opponent, possibly nailing something useful such as Intimidate, allowing Gardevoir's mediocre Defense to be overlooked.

Set #2: Choice Specs
Item: Choice Specs
Ability: Trace
EVs: 4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Timid ( + Spe, - Atk )
Moveset:
Moonblast
Thunderbolt / Energy Ball / Psyshock
Shadow Ball
Focus Blast

Set Explanation: This set is exactly the same thing as the Choice Scarf, although it exchanges immediate Speed for immediate Power. The moves all function the same as before with Moonblast being your STAB. Thunderbolt and Energy Ball are there for extra coverage, you have to decide between the two. You could also run Psyshock to hit things that have low Physical defense such as Chansey and Blissey. Shadow Ball and Focus Blast form perfect neutral coverage.

Set #3: Trick Room
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP, 252 SpA, 4 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Nature: Quiet ( + SpA, - Spe )
Moveset:
Trick Room
Moonblast
Shadow Ball
Focus Blast

Set Explanation: Gardevoir is slower than Mega Gardevoir, so a Trick Room set is better utilized here. These IVs will lower Gardevoir's Speed to 148, allowing it to strike before quite a few other Pokemon. Moonblast is your designated STAB here, while Shadow Ball and Focus Blast form perfect neutral coverage.

Set #4: Cleric
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP, 4 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Timid ( + Spe, - Atk )
Moveset:
Heal Bell
Wish
Thunder Wave
Moonblast

Set Explanation: Mega Gardevoir can't use leftovers, therefore using Gardevoir as a cleric is a good option. Heal Bell is there to de-status your entire team. Wish is useful and with the extra EVs in HP, you'll heal quite a bit of Pokemon. Thunder Wave is good for nailing quite a few Pokemon with Paralysis, such as Choice locked dragons. Moonblast is powerful STAB that you'll use whenever you need to finish something off.

Set #5: A Sullen Memento
Item: Focus Sash
Ability: Trace
EVs: 4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Timid ( + Spe, - Atk )
Moveset:
Memento
Grudge
Destiny Bond
Moonblast

Set Explanation: This set more often than not doesn't work as well as it should, but it's still a nasty surprise. Basically the purpose is to use Gardevoir as a sacrificial Pokemon to take out a sweeper. If you can outspeed, use Destiny Bond to take it down with you. If it's a Pokemon locked into a Choice move, run Grudge. If you just need to take something down a notch, use Memento. Moonblast is there as your typical STAB for attacking.

Other Options: Gardevoir has an amazing offensive movepool, but all of the other sets are outclassed and better used by Mega Gardevoir. If you don't want to use Mega Gardevoir though, you could always run a Calm Mind set. Mega Gardevoir runs it far better though thanks to increased Speed and Bulk.

Mega Gardevoir

Stats
HP: 68
Attack: 85
Defense: 65
Special Attack: 165
Special Defense: 135
Speed: 100

Type: Psychic / Fairy

Description: Mega Gardevoir is one of the cooler Mega Evolutions, making Gardevoir's design far more awesome. Along with this, it has gotten the perfect stat increase. Its Speed is now at 100, allowing it to compete properly in the upper tiers. Along with this, its Special Attack has been boosted to an insane 165, along with getting a respectable increase to 135 in Special Defense. Mega Gardevoir's absolute best set is its Calm Mind set and thanks to its ability Pixilate, it's gonna hit like a truck.

Set #1: Calm Mind
Item: Gardevoirnite
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Timid ( + Spe, - Atk )
Moveset:
Calm Mind
Hyper Voice
Shadow Ball
Focus Blast / Thunderbolt / Energy Ball / Psyshock

Set Explanation: Mega Gardevoir luckily gets access to Hyper Voice. At first you may just see a 90 Base Power Normal type move and think nothing of it, but Mega Gardevoir's ability Pixilate turns all Normal type moves into Fairy type moves and increases their Base Power by 30%. They also get STAB bonus along with that 30%. Basically this means Hyper Voice hits harder than Moonblast and will maim anything that doesn't resist it. Calm Mind is used of course to boost Gardevoir's already insane Special Attack and Special Defense. Shadow Ball is mostly for coverage. The last slot is completely dependent on what coverage you need. Running Focus Blast with Shadow Ball gives you perfect neutral coverage. Thunderbolt and Energy Ball are both good coverage moves as well. Psyshock is a great STAB move for dealing with Specially bulky Pokemon.

Set #2: Dual Screens
Item: Gardevoirnite
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Timid ( + Spe, - Atk )
Moveset:
Reflect
Light Screen
Hyper Voice
Shadow Ball

Set Explanation: Due to the increase in Speed, Mega Gardevoir is able to run a dual screens set much more successfully than its non-mega evolved counterpart. Simply set up screens to sponge damage. Hyper Voice is your STAB attack and will wreck just about anything. Shadow Ball is there for coverage, but you could use one of Mega Gardevoir's many other moves to help you out.

Set #3: Psych Split
Item: Gardevoirnite
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Timid ( + Spe, - Atk )
Moveset:
Psych Up
Hyper Voice
Shadow Ball
Pain Split

Set Explanation: This is another somewhat gimmicky set which utilizes Gardevoir's lower HP and access to Psych Up. Gardevoir can rush past opponents and use Pain Split to regain quite a bit of HP while bringing the opponent into killing range. Psych Up is perfect for stealing stat boosts. Hyper Voice and Shadow Ball are your two main attacking moves and have pretty decent coverage with each other.

Other Options: Gardevoir has access to Taunt and Torment, but it has a hard time finding a moveslot and you're better off either setting up or attacking. There are much better Pokemon to use that could pull off said sets. Gardevoir has a solid physical movepool as well if you're bold enough to run a Choice Band set. Otherwise there's nothing really noteworthy in Gardevoir's movepool to use.
