Dedenne

Stats
HP: 67
Attack: 58
Defense: 57
Special Attack: 81
Special Defense: 67
Speed: 101

Type: Electric / Fairy

Description: Following in the footsteps of Pikachu, Pachirisu and electric rodents alike, Dedenne isn't particularly that good. It has a barren movepool with no special based fairy moves, and its attack stat is too low to use its decent physical movepool. So what can it do? It's got enough speed and barely enough of a movepool to pull off a couple sets. Thanks to its secondary fairy typing it can come in on weakened dragons and pick them off. That's about as much as you're to get using Dedenne. It's a shame, if it had gotten a move such as Dazzling Gleam or Moonblast it could have been a decently powerful force in the lower tiers.

Set #1: Life Orb Charge Beam
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Cheek Pouch
EVs: 4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Timid ( + Spe, - Atk )
Moveset:
Charge Beam
Grass Knot
Hidden Power Fairy / Volt Switch
Thunderbolt

Set Explanation: Its movepool is so barren it has to rely on Hidden Power for STAB. Regardless, thanks to its base 101 speed you'll find yourself outrunning most of the unscarfed lower tiers. Charge Beam gives you STAB and has a 50% chance of increasing your special attack by one stage with each attack. Grass Knot is to nail Rock and Ground types running around the tier such as Golem. Hidden Power Fairy will act as a secondary STAB, allowing Dedenne to hit Dragon, Dark and Fighting types for super effective damage. Most of the time however you'll find that it's nowhere near good enough unless you have a couple Charge Beam boosts. You could run Volt Switch instead for increased momentum, however it's unwise to lose Charge Beam boosts. Thunderbolt is your powerful STAB move that you'll use occasionally.

Set #2: Cheek Pouch Special Based
Item: Petaya Berry
Ability: Cheek Pouch
EVs: 4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Modest ( + SpA, - Atk )
Moveset:
Charge Beam
Grass Knot
Thunderbolt
Hidden Power Fairy / Volt Switch / Substitute

Set Explanation: This is another variant of the Charge Beam set, except it's more situation based. Cheek Pouch allows Dedenne to regain HP when it consumes a pinch berry. The key is to bring it in on a weaker attack since it's got little bulk. Then pull off a minor sweep, gaining more boosts with Charge Beam when necessary or when you can. There's really nothing more to this set. You could also use Substitute in the last slot to help keep Dedenne alive but it's not necessary.

Set #3: Cheek Pouch Physical Based
Item: Liechi Berry
Ability: Cheek Pouch
EVs: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spe
Nature: Adamant ( + Atk, - SpA )
Moveset:
Play Rough
Wild Charge
Aerial Ace / U-Turn / Return / Dig
Substitute

Set Explanation: With Cheek Pouch and a Liechi Berry, it's just barely possible to take advantage of Dedenne's horrid attack. Cheek Pouch will restore Dedenne's HP while boosting its attack up to a usable level. Play Rough is a powerful physical Fairy type attack that Dedenne will get STAB on. Wild Charge is your standard physical Electric STAB. The third moveset is a toss up depending on what coverage you need. Aerial Ace will nail Grass types for super effective damage. U-Turn is for momentum, although losing that Liechi attack boost will essentially make Dedenne dead weight. Dig allows you have some way to damage Rock, Steel and Fire types for super effective damage. Substitute is to help keep your Dedenne alive.

Set #4: Nuzzle-tility
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Cheek Pouch
EVs: 252 HP, 4 Atk, 252 Spe
Nature: Hasty ( + Spe, - Def )
Moveset:
Nuzzle
Charm
Substitute
Swagger

Set Explanation: This is literally squeezing the very last bits of Dedenne's movepool to make it work. Nuzzle is basically a physical Thunder Wave. You can use it to bypass Taunt. Charm will wreck physical attackers and allow you to properly abuse Swagger to pull off a paraconfusion combination. Substitute is just to help insure that you survive and can properly abuse paraconfuse.

Other Options: None. Dedenne has an absolutely barren movepool. Due to Dedenne's speed he could function as a weather setter due to his access to Sunny Day and Rain Dance and his ability to come in on Dragon moves for no damage, but it's mostly luck based and will probably allow you to set up the weather just once. It has access to Parabolic Charge, but more often than not you're better off with Charge Beam or Thunderbolt.
