Zygarde

Stats
HP: 108
Attack: 100
Defense: 121
Special Attack: 81
Special Defense: 95
Speed: 95

Type: Dragon / Ground

Description: Zygarde is the Z legendary of Pokemon X and Y, and while his design is fantastic, his competitive value... not so much. His attacking stats are low even for OU. He does have multiple things going for him however, such as great offensive typing, decent bulk, a good movepool and several different boosting moves. Thanks to these niches and a decent movepool, he carves a niche for himself and gives a reason for him to be used over a similar Pokemon such as Garchomp. While Zygarde may not have the power to tangle with his brothers Xerneas and Yveltal in Ubers, he more than certainly has the tools necessary to succeed in the OU metagame.

Set #1: Dragon Dance
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly ( + Spe, - SpA )
Moveset:
Dragon Dance
Earthquake
Outrage
Crunch / Stone Edge / Brick Break / Extreme Speed

Set Explanation: The main advantage that Zygarde has over Garchomp is his access to better boosting moves, such as Dragon Dance. After one boost, Zygarde's attack and speed will be boosted up to acceptable levels, allowing for a possible sweep. Earthquake is your main STAB move and will nail almost anything that doesn't resist it / is immune to it. Outrage is your other powerful STAB. Unfortunately Zygarde does not get access to Dragon Claw, which means that if you are going to use Zygarde's Dragon type STAB you're going to get locked in. The last slot is a choice between the type of coverage that you want. Crunch allows you to nail pesky Psychic types. Stone Edge gives you the infamous Edgequake combo and allows you to nail a whole roster of pesky Pokemon. Brick Break is mostly for niche situations but it can be useful. Although somewhat irrelevant due to DDance increasing speed, Extreme Speed is an option if you're afraid of moves such as Sucker Punch or Ice Shard.

Set #2: Coil
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 252 HP, 252 SpD, 4 Spe
Nature: Careful ( + SpD, - SpA )
Moveset:
Coil
Earthquake
Stone Edge
Extreme Speed

Set Explanation: Zygarde can take advantage of its bulk and movepool to use a deadly Coil set. The idea is to set up boosts until Zygarde can't be touched. Edgequake is your main move combination here, as getting locked into your Dragon STAB isn't a good idea with this set. Extreme Speed is the finishing touch with this set. It'll nail frail, fast attackers who think they can come in and get a free kill by hitting Zygarde's special side such as Alakazam.

Set #3: Choice Band
Item: Choice Band
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly ( + Spe, - SpA )
Moveset:
Outrage
Earthquake
Stone Edge
Extreme Speed

Set Explanation: An incredibly similar set to the previous two, although this set trades setting up for immediate power. It functions similar to the other sets, Outrage and Earthquake are your basic STABS, while Stone Edge is for coverage. Extreme Speed is for powerful priority. Nothing else to really say about this set.

Set #4: Glare
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 252 HP, 4 Atk, 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly ( + Spe, - SpA )
Moveset:
Glare
Dragon Tail
Earthquake
Haze

Set Explanation: Glare is the only reliable way to paralyze Ground type Pokemon. Zygarde is one of the few Pokemon that gets access to this move, and it can be used to full advantage. Dragon Tail is a STAB shuffling move that you can use in conjunction with paralysis and hazards to switch around your enemy's team and spread status. Earthquake is for a more reliable STAB attacking move you can use to finish off a weakened or paralyzed Pokemon. Haze is a good option for stopping sweeps as well, you can use it to wear down walls who think they can just boost their defenses and skate around your paralysis.

Set #5: Choice Specs
Item: Choice Specs
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Timid ( + Spe, - Atk )
Moveset:
Draco Meteor
Focus Blast
Sludge Wave
Grass Knot

Set Explanation: This set takes advantage of Zygarde's okay-ish Special Attack to nail some surprise kills. Draco Meteor will nail anything due to it being powerful STAB. Focus Blast will nail a multitude of attackers for solid damage and will help round out more coverage. Sludge Wave is there to intoxicate those pesky Fairy type Pokemon who would seek to come in and ruin Zygarde's day. Grass Knot is to help round out coverage and give Zygarde a way to hit bulky Water types super effectively.

Other Options: A Choice Scarf set is always possible, but you'll find that Zygarde's base 100 Attack stat lets it down more often than not. Dragon / Ground is not as good of a combination as it used to be. Zygarde really wishes it had a better ability and more moves in its support movepool. Its signature move Land's Wrath is absolutely useless. It's a physical version of Earth Power and it's entirely outclassed by Earthquake which Zygarde happens to get.

if i ever saw the band or specs set i sont know what i'd do. i reckon calm mind would be a better special set due to his natural bulk, but theres no calm mind tm out yet Sad im guessing they will release it at some point though

Calm Mind would really help Zygarde out. So would a recovery move. Zygarde is basically in normal Kyurem's position. Although I think Zygarde might drop to UU once the Generation 6 tiers are set. Possibly RU / LU

Yeah agreed, it probably wouldn't even be too successful in UU imo. it'll be interesting to see what Z brings to this pokemon, like in terms of a new form or mega evolution, move tutors and all that good stuff.

Zygarde needs three moves in order to be more successful.

Calm Mind
Earth Power
Dragon Claw

I wish that Pokemon Z will give more Pokemon Mega Evolutions. I'd love to see a Mega Evolution of Mightyena.

Yeah, they're definitely going to be doing more mega evolutions, im just hoping they do more ones like mawile, that make the pokemon viable to use rather than just giving cool pokemon a new coat of paint (blaziken, lucario, etc.).

And i dont know how they're going to release the other TMs, whether they'll be through updates or in the next games, or if they're going to release them at all (which would be stupid)

Pokemon Z will probably have more TMs and such. It's really just a matter of time. I think there should be more boosting moves added, such as a special variant of "Coil"
