Delibird

Stats
HP: 45
Attack: 55
Defense: 45
Special Attack: 65
Special Defense: 45
Speed: 75

Type: Ice / Flying

Description: Delibird, why must you be such a badass... but be so terrible competitively. Your stats and typing just kill whatever you had going for ya. Luckily, Delibird got a few new toys in Generation 6, allowing it some interesting; albeit somewhat useless niches. Delibird really needs some boosting moves. If it had managed to get some, it might actually have a better chance of standing out.

Set #1: Suicide Lead
Item: Focus Sash
Ability: Vital Spirit / Insomnia
EVs: 252 HP, 4 Atk, 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly ( + Spe, - SpA )
Moveset:
Spikes
Destiny Bond
Rapid Spin / Defog
Fake Out / Ice Shard / Counter

Set Explanation: This set is simple, set up Spikes and take something down with you. If Delibird manages to survive, you can use Rapid Spin to clear off your side of the field, or just defog if you don't feel like attacking. Fake Out is nice although it does practically no damage. Ice Shard is STAB priority, coming off that insanely high base 75 Attack stat *cough*. Counter is an interesting option, with proper prediction you can actually take a Pokemon down thanks to Delibird's pitiful bulk.

Set #2: Hustle Choice Band
Item: Choice Band
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spe
Nature: Adamant ( + Atk, - SpA )
Moveset:
Seed Bomb
Ice Shard
Brick Break
Gunk Shot / Ice Punch / Bounce / Sleep Talk

Set Explanation: With Choice Band and Hustle, Delibird's attack shoots up to over 500. This can be an absolutely nasty surprise for people thinking that running Delibird is a gimmick. It actually has quite a nice physical movepool. Seed Bomb is for dealing with water and rock Pokemon. Ice Shard is for STAB priority, which will maim anything that doesn't resist it for a decent amount of damage. Brick Break is there to give you a way to hit Steel types super effectively. The last moveslot is mostly a toss up. Gunk Shot has 120 Base Power and absolutely obliterates fairy types (most are slower than Delibird and have weak defensive stats). Ice Punch is more powerful STAB. Bounce is also STAB with a 30% paralysis chance, however the two turn deal is really off-putting. Sleep Talk is another option that would allow Delibird to function as a sleep absorbing Pokemon. This increasing the need for an opponent to predict.

Set #3: Hustle Power Up Punch
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly ( + Spe, - SpA )
Moveset:
Power-Up Punch
Ice Shard
Seed Bomb
Brick Break / Gunk Shot / Bounce / Ice Punch

Set Explanation: Somewhat of a novelty set, it can work if anything faster than base 75 speed has been taken out of the game. Use Power-Up Punch to boost Delibird's attack up to decently high levels while at the same time hitting Steel types super effectively. Then proceed to sweep with whatever moves you deem necessary. The first three moves will be your main weapons of choice. The last slot is completely dependent on the coverage that you need.

Set #4: Choice Specs
Item: Choice Specs
Ability: Vital Spirit / Insomnia
EVs: 4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Modest ( + SpA, - Atk )
Moveset:
Freeze-Dry
Frost Breath
Signal Beam
Future Sight

Set Explanation: The only reason this set is viable in any sort of way is because of the first two moves. Delibird is one of the few Pokemon that gets access to the coveted "Freeze-Dry" move which hits water types super effectively as well. Along with this, it gets STAB and it has decent coverage, effectively a boltbeam combination in one move. Frost Breath is also an important move. It has been buffed from 40 to 60 Base Power in Generation 6. It's a move that always scores a critical hit, meaning it hits pretty hard due to STAB and allows Delibird to bypass walls or tanks that have set themselves up. Signal Beam is mostly just there for coverage and to hit anything that resists Freeze-Dry or Frost Breath. Future Sight has been buffed up to 120 Base Power this generation and can be a bit of a nasty surprise.

Other Options: Delibird's movepool is almost barren. It really says something when your next best option to use on the Choice Specs set is Water Pulse. Fucking, Water Pulse. Delibird really needed some boosting moves to stand out. Delibird does have access to Seismic Toss which could be helpful in niche situations, but nothing in his movepool is even close to satisfactory enough to be used in standard play.

~ Updated with a four set analysis.

Delibird is way too damn hard to make sets for.
